I just read an article about it. Scientists doubt those are real. They say those spiders only get to about 5", measurement of the span of their legs.

Having both been deployed to Saudi Arabia (in the summer) ourselves, we can confirm that those are actual camel spiders; as others have noted, the perspective of the photo makes them appear larger than they actually are.

Of the 5 to 7 little monsters we saw while there, none were larger than 5 inches in diameter (all legs extended). I can tell you this - these little f**kers are AGRESSIVE when you approach them. We had a running track around the perimeter of our living quarters, and these things would show up at night under the lights around the track. They were after the bugs that were attracted to the lights, and when you ran near them, they chased after you!! Little freaky to see this hellspawn of a "spider" trying to nip at your Nikes! Made for some fast Physical Training (PT) run times, that's for sure
