SecondLife
Anybody been on this thing? Pretty wild. I just blew 4 hours on there and still have no idea what the point is. Pretty cool, though... I chatted w/ some random person from Brazil while we "danced" at some club. Pretty interesting stuff. Still a bit buggy, but not too bad. I had two server/simulation reboots and one program crash while I was in there (in a span of 4 hours).
So, anybody else on there? What's the purpose/goal/whatever?

I've wandered around a bit more, and still don't understand what you're supposed to do. There are people selling stuff in there, but as far as I an tell, you have to pay real money to get the "Linden" money which can be used to buy this virtual stuff. If that's the case, I'll lose interest really quickly.

You don't 'do' anything unless you want to. It's just a place you can wander about it, no particular goals, i.e. a simulation of life. It's when you decide that you want to be something in it that the thing becomes interesting. For example, do you want to become an entrepreneur and build/sell/trade stuff.
At one point, it becomes possible to make real money on this thing, and some people are making 4 digit monthly returns on it. But it does require many, many hours of work everyday.
Personally, I'm much more happy in my real life, having real sex, driving real cars, etc...

it's not a simulation of life. It's a stupid waste of time for people with more money than sense, and too much time and not enough experience. People pay real money for things that don't exist outside of the server, so a person could theoretically make money on it, but I'd rather wash dishes in real life.
