They will know and they will check. Like Yogi said, talk to someone in the DoD and explain the situation. I had to go through similar hassle back in my government days.

Expect the feds to check up on your references by visiting them in person.

They'll usually only visit more than one person if they find something fishy (which is certainly the case for you dut), but otherwise a TS clearance isn't that hard to obtain. The two levels above TS I know about, they def. do visit/investigate, sometimes more thoroughly than others.

dut, they do a really good job for security background checks. I work in submarine communications for the Navy and require a TS clearance. During the initial investigation, they talked to everybody and checked everything. All my friends, teachers, neighbors my manager and co-workers, my high school counselor and even my dentist! Chances are, if it's there, they will find it.

I've only seen one person with a backgrounds get a TS clearance. I guess it all depends on what you were arrested for. He waited about 1 year in TECH school for the AF, he finally got his clearance.

They will find it. Just be honest about it. If it was not for something serious you'll be ok.

Had a similar experience. My buddy from high school, who i wasn't that close to, applied to some gov't security job i believe. They sent someone to interview ME. Even though i haven't seen him since high school (appox. 4 years). They might of tracked me down because we were in the same football team.
