I'm curious to know if there are software out there that I can "mine" my own computer with. Let's say if someone stole my laptop, and didn't type in the correct password after X number of tries, the HDD gets wiped clean. Or some kind of hardware that would make the HDD useless.

Any ideas?

You might also consider just putting all your sensitive data in an encrypted virtual disk. I use PGP Disk.
