What video editing software do you guys use?
Alright so I bought a new Sony DVD recorder camera. the editing software it came
with is very basic and Wont let me even merge all the seperate videos ive taken
into one. So, what are some decent but relatively inexpensive editing programs
out there? After I import the files onto my computer they are MPEG2 if that makes
any difference. I tried to open them with Windows movie maker but MPEG2 files
arent supported through WMM.
What do you guys use?
Thanks

I don't know what it is called but my brother had one made by Adobe that was really great. I used it once and it was fantastic.
It is a scaled down version of a commercial use product and has tons of features. I think it is about $100.
If you are going to be using large clips (I started with an hour and a half of footage) lots of RAM helps. He had a gig of ram and it would bog on occasion but he said it would be tough to use with 512k or less.

I use iMovie, but that came with my Mac. I've also used Final Cut Pro, which is more powerful, but for basic editing and DVD set up, iMovie is great.
I think you can even use Quicktime Pro to stitch together files, if that's all you want. Premiere is prob the best for Windows.

I use Ulead video studio (came with some computer hardware I bought).
It's okay, but I will probably look for some new stuff soon.. I've done a wedding video and other stuff before with this, it has some cool transitions and special affects, but you can never have too many..
I don't think you can have too much PC power when doing video.. I'm using a P4 at 2.5 and have 1 gig fast ram.. I built it 4 years ago.. but I would like to build a new machine with one of the new quad-core processors out and 4 GB of ram, now that would be a video processing machine..!! ya think..?
cheers
