Semi Truck fuel efficiency

interesting article about truckers and aerodynamic savings.
sort of proves that we need a huge crisis to get things done anymore.
nothing is ever really about the environment, just money.

i'm glad to hear that's coming around. if i were a trucker i'd be curious about how to save gas even when it was cheap--especially if i was paying the bill.0
money changes priorities. it's not a problem until its a priority.
i take long showers because i like to and water is cheap. were we out of water, maybe a high-pressure system with lower consumption would be a better solution, but til then, i'll keep the extra few hundred from not buying it and spend $.02/day or whatever in the meantime. no biggie, i can afford it. but if water gets rare or expensive, then i'll be looking for alternatives because THEN its a worthwhile investment of my time and money.

When i tow my trailer i usually just drive at 60mph.... i get BLOWN off the road by trucks even while Diesel fuel is close to $5.00 a gallon here in PA. I was thinking they would be doing the same 60mph that I am to try to save a little.... **** that!!!
I thought I remembered WalMart taking some intiative to get their fleet mpg up with aerodynamics, etc....

Why not make Hybrid trucks? Have them run systems like freight trains do which were amongst the first vehicles to use hybrid technology.
Convert deisel to electric to run electric motors to turn the wheels of the truck. They have plenty of space to store bateries and what not.

probably limited government funding is the problem. but the high torque output of electric motors makes me think it would be a good potential application.
because that would add more complexity to the operating systems of the rigs.
that would add more labor time and cost for maintenence and repairs. also the added weight of the electric motor would probably mean more fuel needed to accelerate and decelerate the trucks.
all this just to add a few mpg? not worth it.
