OK, I'm tempted to burn some serious money on a 42" plasma screen for my home video viewing pleasures. I'm considering

- Panasonic TH-42PWD3
- Sony PFM-42B1
- NEC 42MP2

From what I can read on the web the Panasonic seems to have the best video picture quality, but I'd also like to connect a PC (for games, MP3 jukebox, couch based web surfing...) and only the Sony have decent native pixel resolution. Anyone have any experience with either of the above?

Not always true. I don't know about Plasma but I researched and compared HD Big Screens to death for the last few weeks and the Sony Big screens suck. They can make great Wegas and Trinitrons but their big screens are not keeping up with the Joneses. I finally went with a Toshiba 61 inch Cinema Series. Best bang for the buck and to get anything better would cost at least twice as much.

Get a front projector. Better quality and better price. I haven't looked at the plasma screens for the past year, but went I went shopping last year I wasn't that impressed. For the price of a *cheap* plasma screen, you can purchase an hd xga projector with multiple component and vga(db-15) inputs. If you're running a home theatre setup, you're probably running everthing through the receiver anyway. My humble opinion... Good luck shopping!

Thanks guys for your input. I'm asking for comparison purposes because after a trade show I've been offered to buy a barely used (demoed a week) Pioneer 50" plasma screen at about 30% off. It's crazy money, but a great deal and very tempting. It has 1280x768 true pixel resolution, I bet Colin McRae Rally would be more fun than on my 17" PC monitor...

I probably won't buy it anyway, there are any number of better ways to use this kind of money.

Bass Man,

I would seriously consider a projector. The plasmas are awesome but I have seen many projectors, (front/rear projection) that rival the plasma's resolution with screen sizes up to 100 inches. Take a field trip to every home theater retailer in your area and do some comparison watching. Of course, try to use the same materials to do your comparisons. Perhaps take 2 or 3 DVDs with a wide range of color/contrast/content. Best of luck, you should have a blast.
