Shake, Rattle, & whoaaaa!
Pretty seismically active day today! Over 20 earthquakes in Alaska so far (3:30pm) today.
The strongest (so far, gulp) is 7.9
The wierd thing is it just kept going and going and going....or so it seemed. The most intense part lasted for around three minutes, which seemed like forever.
The big one was centered up around Denali, or 180 miles north of Anchorage. No word on how deep it was yet.

No damage in Anchorage that I've heard about. It looks like some highways heaved and buckled north of here, and the other damage was not too severe.
The good thing about Alaska quakes, if there is such a thing, is that are deep. If there were as shallow as the quakes in CA, the damage would have been huge! The "good Friday" quake in 1964 was over 300 miles away but did extensive damage to Anchorage, that one was shallow...and a 9.1.
Thanks for asking, looks like all the Alaska S2000's are safe tonight.

that could probably bring down some big cities here.
