Default Shiraz From Oz

Just tried my first bottle the weekend and enjoyed it very much. Anyone from Oz recommend a good vineyard or year?

Jacob's Creek Shiraz is inexpensive and quite good.

Hard to go wrong with any Aussie red - they sure beat the pants off that sweet watery stuff that comes out of California

It pains me to have to disagree with you, Turkeymeister. Californian cabernets are among the best in the world. Maybe you are thinking of zinfandels!

mns2k, check the Wine Spectator article out. It sets out some of the Aussie shiraz that are available in the US market.

By and large, you won't go too far wrong with shiraz from Barossa, McLaren Vale, Coonawarra, Langhorne Creek etc in the 1996 and 1998 vintages

I have also attached a link to a site with vintage charts for regions in Australia.

Thanks to all for your input. Looking forward to another great weekend tasting fermented grape extract by the pool.

I would highly recommend Rosemont Estates Shiraz.

I purchase it by the case and use it as my 'everyday' red table wine. The wine is consistent year to year. I can buy it locally (NJ) for under $10.00/bottle.

Regards,
Michael

I had Peter Lehman's Shiraz the other day and it was great. I found out it was voted one of the top 100 wines and for the price, it is a greta deal.

Coming from California, I must admit that I really dislike Shiraz and Zinfandel type wines...then I went tasting in Hunter Valley and found myself loving those variatals that I thought I hated. Ok, the Aussies have great Zins and Shiraz ok?
