Shopping for mattress?
One other tip... Don't sit on the bed to test it. Lie down properly to assess comfort. Also, bring your own pillow so you can get a true feel for the bed.
I was always under the impression that the harder the bed, the better it was for your back. I was wrong. Turns out softer is actually better as it molds better to the natural curvature of your spine.
Sleepy's here in the Northeast has a cool system were you lie down on a bed fit with some sensors that recommend the best bed for your weight/height etc. See if they have it in your area too.

I bought an IKEA bed and mattress back in 1994 and it's great. I have no reason to change it after 14 years.
If you want to go all out, here's a $60,000 bed for you:

You spend a 3rd of your life in bed (more if you are me). Get the most comfortable bed you can. Don't spend too much and don't get caught up on the $$ brands. Most of them suck. 80% of the people I talk to that hate their bed have a very $$$ one and have only had it for a few years. Don't get caught up on warranty's either most of them are voided with the tiniest stain or tear or even usual wear. And getting them to fix the problem if it is covered it will be hell trying to get it covered.

There's a guy in the Prairie redliner forum that I bought my exhaust from, he owns a mattress store, he could give you some inside info on what's good or not. His name sadly escapes me at the moment, but if you post in there, you should find him.
One thing I found out while shopping is that you can usually get a mattress for about half the price that they are marked at. I know when I bought mine it was a $1200 mattress and I got it for about $600 just tell they guy look I dont want to have to shop around but I will if I dont think I am getting a fair price so just give me the best price you can right off the bat so I dont have to waist my time and yours.
