Short people..
Figured I'd contribute another random topic to the OT section of S2ki..
Short people, particularly short men... I'm 6', 170lbs. While it may look a little odd driving around in my S2000 (head over roll hoops/seats) - I feel "average" in height and have never really gave it much thought. When I moved to San Antonio a few years ago, I was surprised by how many "short" people were out here. I feel like Im towering over people at the bars, in the mall, the movie theater... but I'm not even that tall. Now I'm not sure what average height is (I've heard 5'10" or so) - but a lot of people I've met out here are in the 5'6"-5'8" range.
We've all heard people say "short man syndrome" or the "Napoleon complex" - usually used when someone is always defensive about their height and overcompensating in other aspects - what they drive, how much money, etc.
I suppose I can understand where this would come from and frankly I don't know how comfortable I'd be being short. The one example that keeps playing in my mind is women.. - I can appreciate a "taller" woman - up to my height - but it would be pretty imasculating to have a "petite" woman be similar in stature and an average woman taller than me, that really narrows down the playing field.

I'm 5'8" so I guess I'm a midget. I've dated girls up to 6'2. I think it depends on your personality how badly you get short man syndrome. I'd say mine is mild if any. If money and expensive cars, though, are your benchmarks, then I have it bad according to that.

To the OP, some short guys feel they need to do drastic things (buy expensive cars, show their power, and overall just be complete dicks) because they've set in their mind that they trail behind taller guys. It's just like the small penis/ferrari theory, some people feel like they need to compinsate their short comings buy flaunting any positive attributes they have.
And on the topic of women, yeah it's a little "tougher" to pick up a girl at a bar for a one night stand, as I know of very few women who have a short guy on the top of their list of attractive features. But I've realised that they right girl won't care about my height. But until she comes around; sluts FTMFW

Maybe because its common to say things like that, but anyone that knows me knows that im a car guy.
One thing though is that I'm fine with life, I'd like my son to be 6 feet tall at least. It does offer an advantage, as studies have shown that tall people tend to be more successful.

I think when you're referring to the Napolean Complex, you refer to people much shorter than the average height 5'6-5'10. Napolean complex can also sometimes referred to taller/large people, or just anyone who feels threatened by society, its just more stereotypically shorter peoples.
Another interesting thing about height is that often times normal people view celebrities as being taller than us and such because of that grand persona that they have. While in reality, most are just average height or even smaller than you or me.
The "successful" stereotype is a tall (around 6ft), slim, athletic, handsome person. But we all know that isn't the case. In all, height might play into a factor of one's personality, but opportunites always present themselves the same way no matter what you look like.

So true on the persona thing too. I learned at universal studios that the sets were built at 7/8 scale so the Heros looked larger than life.

Their standards of beauty are so exacting that I can't even compare it on the same scale.
