I think it's gay. Parking lights are meant for parking.
How do you use your parking lights while parking?
You know why they're called parking lights, right? Because back in the days of yore, when cars were parallel parked on the street, they would leave the parking lights on that faced traffic- for better visibility and to avoid being side swiped.
Nobody really does that anymore
Odd, some of you are posting from California. I was told here it was illegal to run with the parking lights (only) on. It was either everything on, or everything off.
Some other states like NC (North Cackalacky), people will use the parking lights only as dusk, then switch the headlights on when it gets to be dark.

Here in Cali, it is illegal to drive with just the running lights, unless they changed the law without consulting me
. You either have your lights on all the way or off.
Unlike true "daytime running lights", when people turn on their lights to the first setting it also illuminates the dash display. Then as the sun sets and starts to get dark, they forget about the lights not being on because they can see their dash just fine. I see people doing it all the time, dummies. I believe the law was set up to help avoid this situation.
Seems funny because some cars (Vette, Camaro.....) have the running lights programmed into the computer automatically. I wonder if they get hassled.

I run with my headlights when I want to see (at night, in the rain).
I run with my parking lights when I want to be seen (anytime when it's not 100% sunny).
They are in actuality "parking lights" whether or not people don't use them to parallel park is beside the point. The europeans have a better system for this. They have parking light switches for each side. It dimly lightens the brake light and the headlight on one side (whichever side is facing the street).
Running lights are alternates to headlights. Kinda like what come with the jeep wrangelers on the bumper. Basically for auxillary lighting when the headlights are not enough.
Needless to say, they should just disable the parking light switch here since nobody uses them or in most cases don't even know that they are meant for parking.

my Chevy Venture has auto daytime running lights. I don't do it on the S much, but occasionally since i do have to avoid wrecks all the time, since people can't see my lowered and small car in their huge trucks and SUVs in Texas.
I run my parking lights on during dusk Rworne, howd you know we do that.
Its not ghey either IMO, but I do like my HIDs. Im not into the ricer scene either, I just do it because I think it looks smooth.
