this was originally read on the National Public Radio show "This American Life" with Ira Glass.
if you are a heterosexual male, and you sometimes do things that could potentially land you in prison-- you need to read this. it is a pamphlet handed out to people newly incarcerated (I'm not sure if they hand this out at all prisons though). it's long but... talk about a reality/identity shift.
something to keep in mind the next time you're off driving a bit crazy, or even fiddling with your radio and not paying attention to the road. if you accidentally kill someone, that's involuntary manslaughter. how many years of this reality could you endure?

EDIT: the "Nitty-Gritty Details" section may be Not Quite Safe For Work. it is matter-of-fact, but graphic and f*cking disturbing.

How, better yet, why did you find this site? Are you interested in prison rape? Why did it scare you? Did it turn you on, maybe that's why it scared you? I think fear of rape in prison should be taught to little kids. They shouldn't call it incarceration, but fuk you in the ass over and over by bubba for two years.

Hmm, I dunno, Im sure that kind of shit does go on from time to time, but I don't think it's on a regular basis, Im not calling bullshit cuz I haven't had any personal experience <Thank God>, but I don't think everyone gets raped in jail.. I sure hope not anyway...
