eh I think its a good idea actually, although the cost of administering these tests would be high. How much do people get for welfare per week? I know I could go on unemployment right now and make $460 a week for 6 months. not too shabby for doing absolutely nothing hehe.

I think people on welfare make more than that!

way more if they have kids...and they do...usually 3 or more of them.

What happened to the law that Congress passed that said you can't be on welfare for more than 5yrs total? Is that still in effect?

You'd be surprised how resourceful some of these lazy ass welfare recepients can be.
isn't that the truth. Tricks that I know about:

Somehow convince SSI (Disability for kids) that your kid is disabled due to a learning disorder (part of the blame here could go to the actual Disability employee who lets this shit happen).

Get Section 8, then let all your relatives / boyfriends move in for free rent

Sell your food stamps

Get Heating / Cooling assistance then turn the heat up to 80F in the winter and the A/C down to 60F in the summer. Funny how they like the most expensive choices

Do "cash" jobs on the side to avoid having to report the income to welfare/section 8, etc...

Everyone seems to know about a particular church that gives out "emergency" security deposits.... most of my "peeps" have wads of cash, so they are never really in an emergency.

Not sure how food is, but there is rarely a "skinny" section 8 tenant. they are 95% overweight and of those maybe 50% are obese.

bla bla bla...... I am getting tired of the thing.... I have been thinking about paying a property management company for all of my section 8 houses......

it certainly isn't a good life..... someone needs to fix the entire system though.

A "smart" person would hook their kid(s) up on SSI, get mostly free rent from Section 8 (which usually includes the utilities, but normally Section 8 houses are not in desirable parts of the world) and somehow get the free foodstamps..... so everything is free plus they would get the $ for their "disabled" kid (not sure why a "disabled" kid is worth any extra $ though.... stupid gov't rules).

All their health care is somehow free (even if it isn't, they just don't pay).

so.... maybe they get $1000 a month to spend on ipods, cell phones, big screens, puffy jackets, etc.... and they sit around their house (porch in the summer) all fucking day.... what a life.

scotty,

it's in the genetic make-up of a person.

we're all doing well....but we chose to do well.

tell me, do you want to sit on your ass and make $1,000 a month and have everything else paid for and live in a section 8 house?

how about at $2,000 a month?

how about at $3,000 a month?

truth be told, i don't know if i could even do it at $10,000 a month.

just something about being unproductive is counter-intuitive to my make-up.

While I wholeheartedly agree addictions are a huge issue, one problem with having people failing drug tests & not being allowed to be on government assistance means a whole lot more homeless people begging on the street for money. Addictions are extremely difficult to overcome.

I think a lot of people get caught in this vicious circle - for some reason they find themselves on assistance and then feel useless and struggle to regain the motivation to be productive (ie job search, etc.)
