[QUOTE=Elistan,Mar 22 2006, 03:11 PM] Obviously if you took a rare $86k ring and melted it down, you'd only end up with a few dollars worth of gold.

You can use it as collateral at a bank for a mortgage, business loan, whatever.
I'd be careful ever trying to convince the wifey to put up her ring as collateral for anything. You're treading on dangerous waters here. hehehe. Be forewarned.

Here are some top shelf rings that...say all you want...you are not getting online or at the local jeweler....

Bvlgari
Modern:

I dont like them, but many women love square cut diamonds (emerald cut, etc)

Well I used to sell Movado's (at their boutiques a while back) and while their style is more edgy and Modern, they were looked upon VERY favorably towards the Tiffany clientele. It really goes both ways.

Two types of women here, those who want the norm, and then those that don't. As to the percentages... that'd be something for Vogue or InStyle magazine to do....

Some woman hate Tiffany's rings because every woman and their mother has the EXACT same ring. While we may not notice as much, this is a HIGHLY debated topic at the workplace when women are eyeing eachothers rings... While others adore its classic lines and timless elegance.

Same goes for Tacori. Some like the vintage elegant details. Some may think its a bit much. All in all, its preference. Hopefully the men buying them can figure out which way the woman leans. If not you are going to be taking the ring back... hopefully not though.

I agree. The second one is more my taste, and the taste of most women I date. I personally dont like emerald cut diamonds because IMHO, they arent as brilliant....they dont shine as nicely.

Cartier and Piaget have some unbelievable things, but their sites are all flash, so I cant post em up.

Many many more....

Beware of TIFFANY STYLE RINGS. Make sure it is Tiffany and Co.

P.S. Tiffany honors any genuine Tiffany product, regardless of where it came from.

1st link - "approximate retail value of the ring is $28,000.00. " Buy It Now for $20k.

2nd link - "approximate retail price of the ring is $28,500" Current bid - $10,700, reserve not met.

3rd - "Comes with a Tiffany & Co. appraisal of $95,000 and a Tiffany & Co. box." Starting bid - $15k. No bids.

4th - "The approximate retail price of the ring is $14,000" But It Now for $8,500.

5th - "Estimated Retail Replacement Value was $26,300 when purchased in July 2005" Starting bid $20,000. No bids. No reserve.

6th - "an appraisal from Tiffany which states the retail value of the ring as $22,100" Buy It Now for $14,960.

Let's take that 6th sell for example. Tiffany says the value is $22.1k. With a Buy It Now price of $14,960, you are saying that somebody could get this ring, take it to a Tiffany store and walk out with $22.1k? Sounds like the easiest, legal, tax free way to make $7,140 you could think of.
