Sony 50" LCD Television...........anyone have any input on this?
When I was in the TV business, we never used to lie down a projuction unit. It was thought this could cause mis-alignment of the three guns. The LCD design should not be subject to this problem. I'd still hesitate to tip it over while transporting is since the mirror alignment is still pretty critical. fWIW, when we were removing the lower bracket from ours (necessare to flush mount it) we did lie it on it's back, but IMO this is different from "bouncing" it around in a truck on it's back.
I'd guess the bulb is aournd $300ish and you can replace it yourself. I don't think that I'll be leaving Hawaii and 75 deg for Ohio and 32 deg.
As you can see from my beginning photo, I did have a head start on our enclosure. In hindsight, the railing next to the stairs created a lot of extra work since we needed to match a beveled surface as opposed to building a free standing wall from scratch. I never did anything quite like that project and it was a fun learning experience.

i have the 43" and love it. You definitely will not regret it, but find some good prices. I got the TV and a new surround sound system (Yamaha 6.1 w/ 5 disc DVD changer and all monster cable) for 3800 no interest for a year!
This TV has been the topic of many threads on Audio/Video Forums. It's no secret some have had bulb, buzz, dead pixel issues, but this is not the case with the majority of the sets. And no peace of mind that is has been on 50" GWIII more than 42 or the 60". That said in a few months I will be picking one up also. The lowest I have seen it was before Thanksgiving, when Circuit City had the 10% and also a $300 rebate gift card. I'm waiting to see if that returns. But these have been selling like crack in the 90's.
Many people have been on waiting list for weeks. I had a source tell these had some serious incentives at first but kind of hard to see this new hot tv, priced aggressive right now. And I have seen a few and yes the PQ is amazing. Not your dad's olde school RPTV. With the LCD design "burn in" should not be of any concern. But playing it safe is always good. Now on the warranty issue you will get a 50/50. I have never bought it and 90% of all my electronics are Sony. Some say it's paying up front for service that later you will need. It doesn't help either that for these TV's you can pay as much as $500 for such warranty. This has had me in a quandary since I decided to buy it and I think in the end I will probably buy it. Reason is cause of the issues that it did have, it's $3000, and with new tech, you never know what can go wrong. Of course someone else might say different and save on your own just in case. That's up to you. As you have seen and from others owners it's a great TV. I was going to get the previous model but it was discontinued, but I think now the GWIII is not so bad settling for.

FYI, there will be a press release early 1st quarter next year that I believe Intel will be making. They are unvieling new technology that will cut the cost of flat panels in half (at least).
Just dropped the 3k at Circuit City.......now the wait begins for the TV. Rep said 2-3 weeks.....I hope so...
I will post what I think of the TV once I get in and settle down with it.....my winter seems much shorter now....

It was just lucky timing. The 10% offer was a direct mailing coupon announcing their remodeling and only went out to previous customers. The free DVD, free delivery and financing offer was advertised in the paper. There were no disclaimers regarding combining offers ...................... so I took advantage as best as I could. Timing and luck
