Sony 50" LCD Television...........anyone have any input on this?
I am looking at this: Sony Grand WEGA KF50WE610 50 in. Projection Television
It is a true 50 inch LCD for about 3k and was wondering if anyone has one or has any experiences with it. The early ones I understand had some circuitry problems that were corrected and all the ones mfg after Jan 1 will be ok. The pic seems awesome and the price is decent considering the size. It has none of the poor quality picture of traditional rear projections, as it is LCD.
If you have one, any issues with pixel burn in? Is is critical to get the extended warranty? Generally I shy away from ex warranties, but with something like this, I might be inclined. I was told however, by a Sony store, that if something happens, it will happen in the first 30-90 days.
Any input is appreciated. thanks

I have last year's model in the 60" version (Sony KF-60XBR800) and I love it. The technology uses a small LCD panel that a light shines through to project off a mirror to 50 or 60 inches. The strengths are: great image, modest depth, no burn in issues. The weaknesses are: bulb life, contrast ratio (the blacks are sort of dark grey), price and factory warranty.
IMO unless the extended warranty covers bulb replacement, it's not too good a deal. The way I see it, the bulb is guaranteed to require replacement sometime, so the warranty is "money in the bank" However, having said that, why not put the money in the bank and save it till you need the new bulb?
You can see pictures of my setup on my webpage here.

I actually just bought one. Had it for a couple of weeks now. So far so good! HDTV is just insane... (Stay away from that Samsung DVD player that is supposed to covert DVDs to HDTV quality, barely made a difference so I returned it) So to answer your questions, as far as I have heard there is no burn-in with LCD Projection. And I thought about the extended warranty and in the end didn't get it. I have always bought Sony products and never had a problem. Also, I got mine from Circuit City and I think they wanted $600 or something for an extended warranty. If it was a couple of hundred I probably would have gotten it just for peace of mind, but the Sony warranty was for 1 year and after that, I figure if the thing completely craps out, $600 is a good start on HDTV2 or whatever they come out with next
The only complaint I have about it is that compared to my old 32" Wega tube TV, video games look like crap, even in progressive scan. I still play the games on my old TV. Aside from that, I highly recommend it for movies and TV. This is kinda long, but lemme know if you want any more info.

I just got the 60" version of this TV from Sears. Love it so far. Here's a thread on avsforum with somemore info...

Just so you know, sears has a pretty good price match policy. Match the price and take 10% off. By bouncing back and forth from SoundAdvice and Sears, I was able to get the 60" for $3106 + tax.

It might depend on the game. Some of the XBox games are in different resolutions, but most are in 480p, and are not in 16x9 format. Anyway, here's a pretty good list of some of the XBox HD games...

I can't wait for more HD games to come out.
