Sony DSLR. Opinions needed quick!

I've been wanting to get a DSLR but most are always over $500 and cameras are never really on sale here. Stuff in Canada is so expensive =.=. Today I saw that this sony DSLR is on sale and I'd like to have some ideas as to how good this is. I've heard Canon makes the best one but is sony bad or it's also decent in making cameras? Opinions really appreciated. I might even buy it this afternoon. Thanks!

here are some cons to this camera....
High sensitivity noise at ISO 800 and 1600
Occasional Multi-segment metering under-exposure
Long exposure noise reduction artifacts (black pitting, softness, posterization)
Limited image parameter adjustment (only -2 to +2)
LCD anti-reflective coating becomes smeared with marks easily
Proprietary hot-shoe design (fewer third party flash / accessories)
Flash must be raised for AF assist
Unable to control in-camera high ISO noise reduction
Blinking highlights only in histogram display mode
Fairly loud mirror / shutter noise
Power on not absolutely instant (just over a second)
Only one control dial
No dedicated control panel LCD means reliance on the main LCD
No multiple user memories
No vertical grip option

NO by no means!!! if you just starting out I wouldn't run out and spend a 1000+ the things that stand out to me..on the con list as a beginner..would be the Noise at 800 and 1600 and the proprietary boot....you might also want to check lens prices. Since you will obviously need more than the lens it comes with Check lens prices for this camera and comparable Canon's and Nikons.... I dont know if sony has a propriety lens or not...have never looked to be honest.
Detail (D-SLR) Rating (out of 10)
Build quality 8.0
Ergonomics & handling 8.5
Features 9.0
Image quality 8.0
Performance (speed) 8.0
Value 8.5
The Camera Rates good just...do some comparing to canon and nikon....sometimes it is better to spend more.
Do you have a shop you can go look at this one next to a canon or nikon???
In the States we have Wolf/Ritz Camera they usually have a large selection of cameras you can go in hold take pictures try lens. Its what I did before deciding to by my EOS.

I looked at some online reviews comparing this to Canon Rebel XTi, and most reviewers said this one compares favorably with Canon and Nikon series. As I said before, DSLR is very rarely on sale here and if you browse some other products on that website, most are over $800. This one was originally priced at $650 also, so it's a good chance for me to get.

As an owner of several Sony cameras, with and without Carl Zeiss lenses, I can honestly say that they've been very reliable and quite good in the image quality department. Are they the absolute best in the world? Probably not, but they are very very good cameras. No disappointment whatsoever from me.
This is the A200 model and from what I've seen, it's always been well over $500 around here, so this price is pretty good, considering if it has no tax too.
Currently, I'm using the H3 (non-SLR) and its picture quality is excellent and overall quality is quite good. It's only a $300 camera, btw.
