Default Sony Memory Card Problems

Soo we have a Cybershot DSC-P7(older version, not the P71), and it's been flawless since. It's still flawless, but the original 128MB card suddenly has some problems. We have a memory card reader that reads both MS and Compact Flash. Our card is almost full, about MB left, but now when I try to read the 128MB card in my computer (drive F, it gives me about 12 of my pictures and 9 of them I cannot access. They are "locked" so to speak.

What I usually get is a couple folders, a folder with my movies and a folder with my pictures (F:--> DCIM) But now when I try to access my F: drive, it goes straight to the 12 pictures. I have no clue what went wrong, but I think it's with the memory stick, because we stuck a 16MB in there and it read no problem.

And it won't read on the camera anymore.

I guess our last chance to save it is to format the card.. how do I do that?

Format the memory stick in the camera and it should start working properly again.

I have had similar problems in the past.

Have you read the manual?

Do you lose all the pictures? I think I read that it would be all gone. Would kinda suck because the memory stick is full.

Yes! you will lose all of the pictures.

Did you format the memory stick in the camera before you first used it?

I have only had these problems when I have forgotten to do this.

No, I didn't. Because the saleslady said it was all ready to go out of the box, Sony's manual said it would have been formatted also.

But the memory card has been working hard through 3 years of pictures, so I can't really complain.

It also says "No File" when I put the memory card in the camera and try to look at my pictures.

It should still let you format it.
