Default Sounds like TX is a good place to live..

My uncle has an in with the CEO of a I.T. company in houston. I currently live in Pittsburgh PA.

Ive been looking at houses and such..

Cheap compared to the west coast. Seems like TX has west coast weather with the east coast real estate prices.

Ive heard about some of the grandfather laws too.. Kill someone if they trespass on your property?? = No punishment in TX?? Is that true?

No income tax? nice..

What else is there nice down there??

-Dustin

BTW - Id be moving to houston..

No state income tax.

BUT

As is true in other states, when you dont' have a state income tax you do have higher property taxes. All in all, the property taxes are a better deal.

Except for right now the weather is usually very nice. Construction, and other, costs are lower than a lot of other states due largely to it being a "Right to Work" state which means we don't have rampant unions.

It is very, very large so there are climates and sceneries to fit most any of your needs or desires. We have cities larger than some states.

Houston, tho, has traffic. Miles and miles of horrible traffic, but they have the largest concentration of non-chain type restaurants around. There are literally thousands of really cool restaurants.

yea, the prices are great, and the wages actually higher than here in FL for my type of work (and real estate in FL is aweful).

As for Climate, west texas is the hottest but most hospitable IMO. The desert is also real purdy.

my grandparents live in texas. its very nice i enjoy warmth (and im dying here in socal with 49 degree weather). people in texas are usually more hospitable than other states. they don't have idiot laws where if you kill in self defence you still get life sentences (F*** the california legislature and the damn democrats).

oh and they have some good fishing.

we have an awesome s2000 club in houston.. pm me if you ever decide to move here

depends on where you want to live in houston but i guess compared to places like boston you get alot more house for your money. harris county alone has over 15,000 individually owned restaurants. and well umm i dunno what else is cool here since i've lived here all my life. traffic is bareable if you know what times to leave your house/office (avoid 6-8am and 4-7pm)

ooh and around april - september you might wanna carry a sweat rag around it gets really hot and humid lol just dont spend alot of time outside if you dont have to

yes you're allowed to kill someone here as long as you have warned them and they trespassed into your property..its a shady law so dont do it just cuz its legal

Houston can't be beat from a cost of living standpoint. However, the city has many good and not so good things going for it..

Good: Cost of Living, No income tax, great restaurants, Major league teams, decent museums, beach an hour away.

Bad: Flat, No deed restrictions- so some places are really bad, crowded, large minority population(some people don't want that), more crime since Katrina, Beach has nasty water, Humid - I mean serious humidity, no 4 seasons and it is so far away from other cities(Austin - 2.5 hours is the closet "cool" city).
