Default SPRINT DSL rip off

They advertise it $49.99 self install on the website
(you do the install)
But they don't tell you about the hidden charges.

My first SPRINT DSL bill showed $311.49 and this is including the
first two months of DSL service and one month of local phone service.

Neitherless to say I was furious and I cut my home phone and also DSL too.
Has anybody experienced this type of SPRINT DSL rip off??

PeterPan, did you talk to Sprint before cancelling service? that sounds like they're charging you 6 months up front or something. I had a tech come and install Pacific Bell DSL, and my first bill was less than $100, if I remember correctly.

Also, be prepared for some early cancellation fees!

ComCast (cable provider) has been trying to screw me since I signed up 3 months ago. Took 6 weeks to get functioning internet service, and I've had billing disputes 3 out of the 4 times I've been billed, and I suspect that will be 4 out of 5 when my April bill shows up in a week or two. Unreturned equipment charges, service fees when I didn't actually have service, etc. The part that really irks me is that after all the time on the phone with them, I still can't get a f'in return call when they promise one.

Also, canceling your service was almost certainly the wrong thing to do. It is aggravating no doubt, but you lost your recourse to getting your money back, as Sprint can't really do much in regards to offering a couple months free service to make up the costs.

One thing I'm not sure of is the breakdown of your bill. So, it's $50 activation fee (from sprint's site), $10 S&H for the modem (also from site), $50/month x 2 for 2 months service, and 1 month phone service @ $20/mo (estimate)? That comes out to about $180 by my reckoning. What's the other $130?
