STFU
So I riled up a bunch of people on another thread by saying 'STFU' with a smiley after it.
Here's the thread:
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...=615572&st=125
I don't *really* care if someone takes something the wrong way on an Internet Forum... but seriously, is STFU really that Taboo?
I mean, we're talking cars here - doesn't anyone swear at the shop anymore? Don't you hear 'sailor talk' at the track?
Have people really become so sensative that even an ACRONYM for a "bad word" is reason for offense and retaliation.
Go ahead tell me I'm the ahole.

Everyone knows that a smiley absolves one of all wrong doing..
It's like saying "with all due respect" in real life, then saying something mean. With all due respect sir, you're an asshole, and I hope you die. The person can't get mad, because proper respect was given.

Probably has more to do with the banter and tone leading up to the "STFU" rather than the usage itself. Obviously nobody here in this thread is offended by the term - but the discussion is WAY different than what's going on in the other thread. I suspect no matter what phrase you used, you'd catch flak - the STFU was simply an easy target. It's not the word itself, but the context and connotation around it that's important. (Although there are people who'd be offended by certain words no matter how they're used or intended, but I don't like those sorts of people.)
