I think this question has been plaguing humanity since topgears first days.. Who is the stig? does anybody know?

On a more serious note, nobody knows. He's anonymous.

 

And why is he "The" Stig? What's a stig? How come he isn't just "Stig"?

 

Maybe they keep him secret so they can play up his driving skill. Maybe he's some formula 1 reject that people would critisize about how fast the cars could go around the track if someone better was driving. Or maybe he's just badly misfigured from a canning accident

Tiff was a long time ago. They've had a new Stig for a while now.

 

Well, the Black Stig was Perry McCarthy, an F1 driver, but he retired from the show in 2003. Nobody knows who the new, white Stig is.

 

So he didnt die going over the carrier?

 

 

I heard it was Julian Bailey, an old F1 driver as well
