My Mom and step dad are, but I'm working on getting them to switch to high speed.

Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, there is no reason to still have dial-up. You can get $14.99/mo DSL practically everywhere.

That's what I keep telling them....they're in north Dallas, so they shouldn't have a problem with availability, they just haven't switched yet.

My Dad uses dialup. It suits his needs and he has a free account. I'd die if I had to use dialup.

my EXTREMELY "CHEAP" uncle now has DSL. I can't imagine anyone still on Dial-up. This guy will shop around for $5 PC speakers, and call me from each store to get my opinion on them. If he has DSL, everyone should. LOL.

Well, my parents are STILL on dial-up. They have no choice, they live on Maryland's Eastern Shore and because it's such a rural area, dial-up is the only option. There is a group in broadband investors, called Bay Broadband, who are trying to build a broadband infrastructure, but last I heard it's ont operational yet.

Think about those in Montana, the deserts of Nevada and CA, places like that where there is nothing for miles and only a few residences. How can broadband be made affordable for them and profitable for investors?

Even in the middle of nowhere, you should be able to get broadband satellite service.

I agree. I live 2 kms out of a city that has about 80k people and could not get high speed when I first moved there a few years ago. I looked into satellite and it just wasn't worth it, so I suffered for another several months until I could get DSL.
