Sure, busting street racer is more important than busting some drug dealers or rapists. Let's spend $400,000 to stop this evil, route of all crime, immoral, street racers. They kill more people than drunk driving and aids combined!

If they are a menace to society, shouldn't they be punished.

Just because there are other more serious offences being committed, doesn't mean that the police should ignore these extremely dangerous offences! .

It is always this argument that people use.... "why don't they spend their time catching REAL criminals". These are real criminals and they are putting the lives of people at risk.

They deserve everything they get......

IMHO

lives of people at risk
The thing is, people who come to these races know the dangers involved. It's not like we are racing in the middle of busy intersection where bunch of innocent people are standing by. Streetrace takes place in some empty road at 12am. Everyone there KNOWS the risk.

So is it right thing to do? No.
Is it dangerous? Yes. (But what isn't really?)
Is it worth spending $400,000 to stop it? I don't think so. IMO

Police said those arrested yesterday were offered a free pass to participate in a legal racing program at Qualcomm Stadium called Racelegal.com that is sponsored by San Diego State University.

During one two-month period in 1998, eight people in the county died as a result of street-racing crashes, he said. Police could not cite any local deaths or injuries since then.
There are consequences to these activities.

1. As much as you may not think of it.......accidents and deaths of willing racers and observers cost you and me money (moreso if you are a resident of the state). There is a cost to every service provided from rescue to clean up. This cost is brought through to you and me in the form of taxes.

2. Also there is the cost to insurance companies that is forwarded to their customers that we all realize when it comes time to pay your premiums.

3. Here's the flip side to the thought of police taking time away from nabbing drug offenders and armed robbers to "herding" street racers: Isn't it socially irresponsible for the community member (the street racer) to act in illegal manners to pull police away from the more serious crimes being committed?

Hey...I'm not telling you what to think. I'm just giving other facts that many others (including the state and federal governments) think about when voicing our opinions and passing laws.

I went to a illegal street race back about 6 or 7 years ago ( i forget) But that was the first and last time I went to one of those things. It was in san Jose area in cali and there was a guy in a NSX was racing another guy, The NSX lost controll he flew out his car and died ( i hope instantly ). Everyone left quick because no one wanted to get caught. Cars were flying by trying to avoid the guys head. It was a sad sight I'm not against racing, I just feel it needs to be kept on the track.
