This.

Suicide is tragic, yes. But at this point, 1 is less than 10 is less than 20...

Your stats and data are irrelevant to me, all I implied was kids in the US kill themselves for stupid reasons (not that there are smart reasons to kill yourself).
I you want to contradict me show me that more kids in Belarus kill themselves for pregnacies and pwnage.

So what are you ranting about?
Hey if all you're saying is that kids kill themselves for stupid reasons and that there is no such thing as a good reason, we can just shorten that to:

"kids in the US kill themselves for reasons"

Hard to disagree with that

My use of data regarding Belarus was in response to suvh8r's statement (that you agreed with) that suicides are due to a lack of exposure to the harshness of the world. I showed that countries people would generally consider "harsher" also had higher suicide rates.

Now if you're saying specifically that pregnancies and internet pwnage causes more suicides here than in Belarus, well, that's a meaningless statistic that would be on you to back up, especially since that, as you pointed out the importance of earlier, is irrelevant to the title of the thread.

You showed that "harsher" countries have higher suicide rates. You didn't show that college aged kids in harsher countries kill themselves for selfish/immature reasons, which is what I implied about American kids (keep in mind that I wasn't implying all US suicides were for these reasons). I even mentioned that you didn't provide reasons in my first reply to you. You responded by saying suicide is present in all age groups ...what does that have to do with "reasons why kids in Belarus kill themselves"? Then you asked what age group has the highest suicide rate in the US... what does that have to do with "reasons why kids in Belarus kill themselves".

You're saying higher suicide rates in harsher countries and older age groups means that kids in the US don't kill themselves for selfish reasons. Given the data in the link you provided, how did you come to that conclusion?

If he didn't kill himself, did the father?
Father was in coma for over 3 months, no recollection of what happened. He was lucky because he didn't remember having a family, less painful I guess. Not sure if he was informed of what happened.

The frat boy had a rich father and very good lawyer my understanding is that they delayed his "punishment" until he completed college, because going to jail during college would "ruin" his education

He has done a lot of community service over the last few years and continued to grad school, so that he can have a lighter sentence. I don't see how that is fair or how he can get a lighter sentence for killing 3 people with community service, that is a whole other topic.

As for suicide: the only friend I had that committed suicide seemed happy, successful with a lot of friends. Till this day no one is sure of the reasons for taking his own life. This was senior year of high school after getting into UT Austin on a full scholarship, that was his first choice.

To the OP...
I wouldn't say that committing suicide is "normal" (I think we can all agree it's not part of "normal" human development), although it's not exceptionally rare. Unfortunately there are all kinds of reasons people feel they can't cope. Often people struggle to deal with huge amounts of change and for some, going off to school is overwhelming, especially if they don't have much support. Plenty of people say it's selfish and "taking the easy way out," but it's impossible to know what people are struggling with. I've watched a close friend battle demons over the last 10+ years and if suicide was her final choice I'd still say she's braver than the vast majority of people I know.

Cal Poly Pomona when I was there in 03 someone jumped off of the admin building (Big pointy building) headfirst to the concrete below. I think it was 04 I remember someone hung them-self in a dorm room there as well.
