Superstars of Dance!
sorry to say but the monks and the argentenian bolo weilders wont get far becasue ( although many dance moves may have originated from martial art forms they are not dancing. it does not come across as dance it comes across as katas and forms demonstration. they have to have more movement and deliberate acts of dance to be appropriately judged in a dance competition.
They are technically superb but it is not dancing

What is the definition of dance? What is your opinion/definition of dance?

What is the definition of dance? What is your opinion/definition of dance?Everyone has a good solid idea of what is considered dance. If they did not, then the judges could not so easily agree with one another and say that there was not enough "dancing" in the martial arts demonstration they just witnessed
Even the couples that decided to showcase a couple of amazing feats of balance were slammed for not moving enough or not "dancing" enough.
an OPEN dancing competion never does well because there could never be enough judges expert enough on all the dance styles to properly determine who does what well.
A ballroom dancing judge could tell if a breakdancing crew looked lively and seemed to be fairly coherent but probably knows very little if anything about a proper windmill or top rock...just as a street dancing judge may have little to say about a tap dancing routine beyond the rythmn of it....
please dont beg the question on this. I think anyone with half a brain can tell a kata from a dance routine and know there is a difference in their perception.
all the "demonstrations" I saw were pretty good and technically well executed but I could easily mark them low for "dance content" because they lacked what most would consider the structure associated with dance.
Is it all artful and elegant, yes
is it all showcasing amazing talent and dedication to your craft, yes
is it all dancing, no...........
I did not really have to type all that, did I? LOL
I was looking forward to the Baliwood because on "so you think you can dance?" they did such a good job but I was disappointed pretty much in the whole show. The American hip-hoppers did do good though. Even the American popper was disappointing. The judging is lame too. I'll probably still watch it since Monday night football is over though.

Michael Flatley is possibly the most boring host ever.
I agree that martial art movements are not really dancing in today's definition. However, what those monks were doing were not exactly martial art movements but more of a demonstration of martial art forms + dancing + entertainment. I've seen their much better works elsewhere.
