I agree, I mean there's lots of crap music out there, and Im not gonna spend $20 for one or two good singles on an entire album... so in that case, I don't really feel guilty bootlegging and d/ling their music because it's a crime for me to pay my hard earned money on an album with a couple good tracks.. In the same sense, the artists who i respect such as Kweli , I will buy the album and support the artist...

The really weird thing with bootlegs is, it's all internal, so these artists must really check the people and personnel around them if they don't want their shit sprawled all over the net before it comes out..

I write software. I know for a fact there are people out there using what I wrote without paying for it. It is called the cost of doing business. Sure, you try to minimize it, but at some point, you are spending too much time and money trying to protect your revenue stream, and not enough time making a product people want to pay for.

I can talk - I've lost money to piracy. I could whine and cry, or change professions, or suck it up and keep working. I also go to live shows. If a musician wants to sit home and sell records, fine. But don't whine and cry to me when people who wouldn't buy your album anyway get a hold of it without paying.

tablib is one of the artist that really should be supported. He is one a hip hop artist that has lots of talent but never followed the money by talking about "bitches & hoes" or "ice", etc. He, MosDef, and Common are my favorite artists and I will definitely support them.

heres my problem. And its a bit hypocritical

Artist make wayyyyyyyyyy too much money for what they actually do (3 months in the studio warrants a $1,000,000+ paycheck).

Artist deserve this money because the record company makes wayyyyyyyyy more off the album sales than they will ever see.

I know its hypocritical but I dont know what side of the debate I fall on just yet. But up until a few years ago (and even sometimes today) I listened to rap all the time. If you know anything about Hip hop you know that the entire industy is or atleast used to be run by Dj's producing mixtapes and selling them in the ghetto.
Thats where Dj. Clue and Funmaster Flex came from and besides the studio albums they put out, they are at it week in and week out. Why doesn't a rapper complain about this???? because its free plublicity (Most rappers go into the studio with Dj Clue and record songs that are just for Mix tapes)

Now that HIS album is leaked its an uproar, but when Rappers put out songs in support of this underground existence its just "part of the game."

I dont know what I'm trying to say here and sorry if its jumbled (I'm Tired) but I guess my view is slowly changing from Don't Hate the Player Hate the Game.

to

Hate the (new) Players, keep the Game the way it was.

Oh I forgot to add something, I think that the fact that the Dj tapes were original sold only in the Beauty Salons in the Ghetto and now are all over the internet is a big part of this.

Instead of Little White Patrick (thats me) having to drive to the Ghetto to get some tapes or CD's now Little White Katie (my 14 year old sister) can do the same thing in the comfort of our home (10 miles from the ghetto)

Oh and I had to pay for the Dj tapes (3-for-20$ back in the day)

The fact that its no longer just an underground movement may have something to do with it (the internet is not exactly underground is what I mean) Before it was a fan base of the black youth and hip hop culture, now its a Widespread Panic (shameless plug).

But still, if he really has a problem he should try and sue his record company since thier the ones with the masters and the copies had to have at one point come from the master tapes.
