I'm talkin' about the kind that hooks up to your home stereo system not the CD burners that hook up to your computer. Since our S2Ks only have a CD player, I would like to convert my cassette tapes to CD so I can take them with me. I don't want a megabuck unit just a low to medium end one. Any ideas? Some things I should look out for when buying one? What are the advantages and disadvantages for a writable CD vs a re-writable CD? Thanks for any help given.

I think that most rewritables aren't readable in most head units.

I would recommend against it, and just use high quality, *Sony* CDR's in a computer system. Why? well, you cannot just go out and buy a CDR for a computer and expect it to work in a home console system, it actually will not. CDR's must be specific for 'home stereo systems' - not sure what's different technically, but I will tell you that its a buck or two more - and that buck or two more goes to the RIAA - who put that in place for home stereo systems. They aren't that efficient either.

While I believe that is true, For what its worth, I have a Marantz CD recorder. Being that my system is based around Marantz equipment. It works well. Not any better, nor any worse then the unit in my computer. I basically only use it for my own music, since I have dumped all my old tapes, cds, etc to Mp3, With a hook up to my stereo. Now if I could only afford an Escient system

If that is your main objective, no need to outlay the bucks for a home unit. I can't thin of any software off hand, but I'm sure that there are plenty of them around. I just ran my tape deck in to the inputs of my sound card, recorded with "Sound Recorder" to Wav. File, then burn them.
Other wise I rip them straight to MP3, thru Winamp and burn them from there.

PS. Yes if you burn a disk with a home unit, it will play in the S2K
