You make this sound like a civil war out there; us verus them. Whose them really? Them is our brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, fathers and mothers.

I think you give very little credit to the "average citizen". The average citizen isn't a dumb smuck and surely do noy act like animals. If this is what you truly believe, then your views on society are very tainted. Although fear of getting fined financially or being imprisoned are factors, its not what drives people to be law abiding citizens. What ever happened to this little concept called right and wrong? Running a red light is wrong. I don't run red lights because I don't want to injure someone else in an accident; not for fear I will lose some money. I don't go around killing people because its wrong; not for fear I may be imprisoned.

Hmmmm I'm game. Your initial argument had some valid points and I somewhat agreed. My original point is that cops are humans, just like you and I, open to the good and the bad. The flaw in your argument however, is that while you make some valid points about crooked cops, you are generalizing your views towards every police officer who is in uniform. So address this.... Is every cop a bad cop? Are those NYPD cops who died while trying to save people in the WTC Towers bad cops? Yes, there are some cops out there who abuse their powers. Some of us, here, including I, have experienced "police abuse" in one fashion or another. But should we continue to be ignorant and base all our assumptions and arguments on a bad experience? I'm not...

Then what are we fighting for over there in Afghanistan?

Extremely upsetting to me also... Also very concerned if something should happen to a family member and need the assistance of any medical person at a hospital- but some idiot is making them sit and watch a parade?????

I'll never call to complain about any cop though. I had many letters of support from VIP's - even an ex-dean of a law school who was then President of a local university... This "burg"...felt it had to back up their officers... I later learned that my 'local cops' have a reputation clear up in the state capitol. Not a good one.

At the time I felt it was best not to make public waves, perhaps a wrong choice. Having never been through anything like this before - EVER...it was a shock and a real embarassment.

I am moving in a couple of more months. New house construction should be done...then I'm outta here!

Another day a cop LIED about my speed and gave me a ticket. 45 in 35. It was a lie, I watched my speedometer very closely, it never exceeded 40. Plus I know it's actually 2 mph less than it shows. I will try to contest it but what the hell should I do? Should I buy a Civic? Oh wait, maybe he doesn't like Japanese cars? Ford Escort? Maybe I shouldn't wear a leather jacket? Maybe I should be an old lady? What should I do? Maybe I should install a certified device of some sort to record speed and a videocamera in my car?

Well I understand that nobody cares, it's all about evolution and survival. If you want to survive - adapt.
Still very annoying though.

Out of about 10 encounters with cops I've had, only 3 of them seemed to be nice people. Pretty poor statistics. They should work on it.
