Team SWIFT - applications being accepted
Hi,
I would like to hearby submit my application to Team Swift on the following grounds......
1. The roof is a dustcover...nothing more.
2. I have driven in temperatures approx -8 C with the roof down.
3. I have an emergency baseball cap, (not a scrunchie) for those long haired females.....(used last night actually)
4. Night driving with the roof down is 'standard', not exceptional. (what use is the biggest starroof in the world if you dont use it?
5. My resolve of driving in the rain with roof down is legendary in the town of Fleet (Mecca) in the UK.
6. Hardtops are for girls!
7. I never, ever, ever, would consider a warm hat!
If you need anymore, then just let me know!
Cheers
Mark.

Hardtops prevent you from going topless on those glorious winter days that are freezing cold, but have bright sunshine...
They also prevent you from doing that very cool top down/up thing at traffic lights to impress the people behind you!

I'm not an S2000 owner quite yet, but I think I already qualify. Here's my resume:
First, I live in Seattle (this is important to the story). My previous vehicle was a 1993 Jeep Wrangler built up for four wheeling (which I did often). When I purchased the Jeep it had a hardtop. These are quite spendy (as far as Jeep body parts go...$1000 or more), so I took it off and stored it at a friends house...for more than 6 months!
I drove the Jeep every day, rain or shine (or sleet or snow or near freezing temps) with absolutely no top on it most of the time. I wore fleece, Gore Tex, my now famed floppy black hat (Outdoor Research Seattle Sombrero).
If it got REALLY wet, I always had a rain jacket, gloves and hip waders stuffed under my seat!
Since I don't officially own an S2000 quite yet, I would like to be considered for a provisional membership pending my acquisition of an S2000.
I'm hoping to welcome a 2002 S2000 into my life sometime this summer...at which time I would like to come before the board and plead with the board to consider me for full membership.

OK, consider this my application for membership. 30k+ miles daily driver.
Car is stored usually late December (or first snow) until late February/early march depending on how absolutely shitty the WI "spring" is. Once it's out, top is down except for two occasions - serious rain and/or wife (Ann) is along and we're going someplace 'nice' and she maintains she needs to be presentable. But that's it! Specifics below:
Generally from February until the end of March each morning it takes about an hour of being at work for the back of my head to thaw out, gloves, a high collar on my leather jacket and the heater help, but I'm not wearing a hat.
I've been asked at stop signs three times this year so far "What are you crazy? Is your top busted? Aren't you getting wet?" Driving to work in the rain. My response is generally - top works fine, I only get wet when I'm not moving.
First three softball games of the year temps were in the 40's - teammates in utter disbelief that I'd drive around with the top down. For me 40's is damn near tropical in April.
Carry the California Dash Duster in the car for quick dash and interior clean ups from all the dirt and road crap the collects from all the top down driving.
Weekly ritual to clean the inside of the windsheild - again from all the crap collecting on it.
Nighttime is the best for going topless. We live in a somewhat rural area and the stars are awesome!!
On drives to/from work am generally irritated at the rest of traffic driving with head in ass when raining - don't they realize that I need to maintain 70+MPH in order to stay dry??
Have only had to wash top 1-2 times per year since it's never up.
Thanks for the consideration!

My top only goes up to wash the car. More than 90% of the time the boot cover is on and I use a cockpit cover to keep the elements out when it's parked.
Fortunately for me, I live in S. CA (where we don't get really nasty weather) and I have a very cool wife to be. I keep a trusty NY Mets ballcap in the trunk for her as well as a windbreaker. She allows me to keep the top down no matter what. In both of our S2K's we've happily enjoyed some very cool, damp, night driving with nothing but the sound of the car to keep us company.
Weather be damned!!! Top down is the way to go.
