you should separate him from EVERYTHING then....(but how does he hump to himself??? )

that happaned to my dog before, we send him to a dog trainning school for a period of time and he no more hump again when he come back.

seriously, you should separate him from EVERYTHING.

My last male dog was a humper even after we had him neutered. His favorite target was the cat's head. The cat didn't like it much. I have no solution.

The dog is trying to show dominance over you, it's not really a sexual thing. You know the whole Alpha Dog thing. Next time he does it, pin him down and hold them there until he gives up. You need to demonstrate who is in charge. Also if you really aren't interested in breeding a dog you should considering getting him neutered. It will save you headaches and heart grief down the line. Think of it this way. You're dog can live an extra year or two if you neuter him (about $100) now or you he can have a shorter life and you can have a large medical expense down the line. For a vet, to determine he has cancer which could have been prevented years ago.

My bitch likes to hump legs too! She's a cocker spaniel. The dominance thing sounds like it's true--I will try that next time turbo_pwr.

Really consider getting him neutered! If you are not going to breed him... If you are get him neutered after. Best dog I ever had died at 9yrs because of prostate cancer that wouldn't have been an issue if I had him neutered. He was extremely healthy otherwise and I felt stupid for not taking the Vets advice years ago. Would have been great to have him around a few more years!

We just discussed the humping issue here: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...highlight=alpha

You might find the book "Culture Clash" by Jean Donaldson helpful in understanding dog behavior. It's a pretty exhaustive look at why dogs behave how they do and their thought processes.

BTW, if you ever have to witness pets being put down because they didn't have homes and weren't adopted, you might rethink the idea of not getting your dog neutered. Unneutered dogs tend to wander more in search of... well, unneutered? You get the picture. I think we covered this base in a thread a while ago too: dog balls are gross!
