Why was my post moved from car talk to off-topic?

<Sarcasm>
The S stands for "Shitty"
and 2000 is the number of trips to the shop the car will make in it's first 5 years

They use the english letters because the majority of their sales are going to be anywhere that doesn't speak english or understand it. so it's more universal instead of giving one car different names for different regions...and since english would be the most wide spread language that's the one they chose....i guess....or they just like the way it looks

Wouldn't that make them not want to use English letters?

I kinda like "S2000", especially in light of its heritage.

What really bugs me is "S2K". Everyone seems to be using it, so I'll just have to hope that it goes away eventually. I think it grew out of the (much overused) "Y2K", and in a few years it'll seem really dated.

Just my pet peeve rambling. I'll shut up now.

I'm from Japan, but never gave a thought about why all Japanese cars, or any other cars in a world have English letters. Maybe because I'm so used to S2000, Carolla, or Camry, I would never put Chinese letter on my car. Like

Acura has now given all its car Alpha-numeric names in place of the old Legend and Integra. I still don't know what Integra actually means, but I hope Honda leaves the Civic and Accord names alone.

in France we say "s deux mille", which is as cheesy, but faster to pronounce than "s two thousand".
Tedster, I agree, s2k is just plain ridiculous.
We could have gotten 2 names in one, like the 360 Modena, but then again, if they DO end the production next year, 2000 makes sense, or at least it will be glamorous in 2043...

I have read somewhere that S2000 comes from mr.Honda's first name which is Soichiro and like you said, 2000 because of the engine displacement.
