Default Tivo/PVR users/subscribers.. anyone used/seen this? MythTV ?

A friend pointed me toward this as a next possible little project. Esp with prices on pc's so cheap these days.... I might finally make a full media server instead of just a laptop and a Tivo hooked into my tuner...

not quite sure what you mean.... if I built a box for something like this I'd prolly go with 2 pvr cards and maybe 2x100g hd's.... or maybe bigger...

They reviewed this on TechTV and weren't real impressed with it. They said it was still pretty buggy and didn't have near the usability and features of Tivo. I put a 120 GB HD in my Tivo and it's nice having all of the recording space I could ever need.

how long ago did they review it? I'm especially interested in the idea of adding as many pvr cards and using it as a media server too..

as with all works in progress... I'm curious how long ago vs what revisions they have made.

It was a few months ago, maybe November or October. They made it sound like it was pretty far from really competing with the usability of Tivo. It's free though so maybe you can just download it and try it out to see if it meets your needs. I'm spoiled by my Tivo and don't think I could switch to anything else, though I don't really need the extra functions a media server could do. If you have a fairly new Tivo have you checked out the Home Media option? It lets you play mp3's and view photos that are stored on your PC through your tivo.

I have an old series 1 and have lifetime service on it... and I threw a HD in it... and it's going on 2.5 years so I've already gotten my use out of.. I'm just exploring other options... I don't really see home media as an option as I don't save my mp3's on a computer per say but on a network drive(which I don't think can/will run their little server app) and I don't believe their interface is that great either...

I'm just exploring other options... call it a all-in-one dealio... just curious right now... thanks for the input.
