Huh. I've read 12 of this list. I need to keep up. My high-school nickname was "geek" but they meant the sideshow guy who bites the heads off chickens...

Ender's Game was an awsome read.

1, 2, and 9. I started an Asimov book once, but didn't get very far.

Might be age-related. I was just thinking that among my age-peers all us geeks were equally into some other authors, like Michael Moorcock, Robert E. Howard, or Edgar Rice Burroughs.

An excellent question. Maybe that's #21 .

As a side note, Snow Crash is by far my favorite of all of them so far. I highly recommend it. Cool story, cool vision of the future, humorous writing style, and the main character's name is Hiro Protagonist...what's not to like??

Stranger in a Strange Land is very good so far too.

Wow, I had no idea someone had made 1984 into a movie. Thanks for the heads up .

The HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy -- Douglas Adams
Nineteen Eighty-Four -- George Orwell
Brave New World -- Aldous Huxley
Dune -- Frank Herbert
Stranger in a Strange Land -- Robert Heinlein

I may have read some of the others, especially Asimov's but I don't remember.

There's a lot to like in Snow Crash. The whole Mafia pizza delivery concept still makes me laugh. Stephenson breaks a lot of writing rules and gets away with it because his clever phrases (first things most editors jump on) really are clever.
