Tow rates in Santa Clara, CA
My roommate's car just got towed. They want $260 in CASH to get it back. This seems absurd. The woman on the phone refuses to give her name, the name of the owner of the business, the California business license number, or any other information regarding their legal practice of business. I find this hard to believe. I don't feel like litigation, because I simply don't have time. However, does anyone have any information regarding the legal tow rate in Santa Clara county? Any ammunition for my defense? I already filed a complaint with the BBB (even though it won't matter).
Thanks.
Thanks.
Call your local police station, most of the time cars are towed under a muni code, and they should be able to help. At the very least they should have the info about the towing co, as they usually have to be registered and they often have to report when they hook a car (otherwise there'd be a lot of "My car just got stolen" complaints to track down... It's not at all uncommon to have crooked tow truck operators around, and the cops are probably the best avenue for gathering some info...
