Tow Vehicle
I've been told by people who would know that you don't want a short wheelbase truck as a tow vehicle for anything as heavy as a car. Reason being that the trailer can torque the truck off the side of the road much easier. The cheap good vehicle is a F150.
For 2 cars, I think you're going to have to move into the dually/diesel realm with those bed-mounted hitches (forget what they're called). A friend of mine has a Cummins (sp?) diesel p/u, with one of those hitches, and he said he's pulled over 20k without any problems with it...dunno about $10k though...
