trying to get in to airsoft
been itching to try airsoft lately. i used to paintball but financially it's a stupid sport to get in to when airsoft is available. an airsoft arena is also very close to home. going to go this sunday to the local airsoft arena. it's an indoor cqb warehouse. i know that after my first time i'm going to want to buy a gun so i've been researching like crazy lately. i was wondering if anyone could give me the low down on these guns and/or suggest a good entry-level gun. i understand that these are mechanical devices that are bound to fail sooner or later but reliability is the key factor in my eyes. i am fairly certain that i would be able to perform most repairs/maintenance/upgrades on my own. there are a number of guns for sale locally on craigslist. the absolute maximum i will spend is $150 (lol, i know). these are specific ones i have my eye on:
-Classic Army MP5
-Echo1 p90
-Echo1 g36c
-Echo1 M4
-ICS M4
whichever gun i end up getting must be a model of one of these, regardless of manufacturer:
-MP5
-p90
-M4
-M16
-G36c
-FAMAS

i still rather paintball, you know when the other person is out, and if you really don't like a person you can turn up your gun and sting the shit out of them
airsoft is what i use to get the cats off my porch

paintball is fun, but if airsoft is available then to me it is the better choice--ammo is about 1/4 the price, ammo doesn't fail, don't need to constantly pay to refill tanks, the weapon is MUCH less cumbersome, and your ability isn't limited by the how much $ you have put in to your weaponry, but rather how tactically savvy you become
Meh. Use real weapons and buy these instead: Simunition
When one of these hits you, there's no debate about if someone really was shot
J/K - AirSoft guys dump a lot of coin on gear...can't figure that out, but more power to them.

I still have all my "gear" however my gear is actually functional if a SHTF situation were to occur anyway so I don't really see it as a waste, per se.
Anywhoo...airsoft is a lot of fun but there are major drawbacks depending on your age and level of play. Here are the major drawbacks that keep me from playing more often: You will have the crowd of KIDS age 15-20 that no matter if you shoot them dead in the face, they will not call their hits. Even as you watch your bb's bounce off of them. That is the most annoying part of the game. There is no proof that you hit the target other than their word. In other words, there is no paint to prove your hit, it's all about honor. I will say that sometimes in peoples defense, they are wearing so much gear, that if you are too far away you will not, or will barely, feel the hit.
-I wish there were some CQB warehouses in my area I would play a lot more. If you engage in the CQB type play, make sure you wear something that will protect your teeth. There are plenty of people who have walked into a CQB game with a full set, and walked out with some majorly chipped up tooth damage. I would reccomend getting a shemagh (sp) or some other protection to cover your mouth area.
As far as guns go, I would just start out with a hi-cap mag, a classic army m4 variant and you should be able to get a $50 tac-vest from cheaperthandirt.com. See if you like it, then spend the money.
Dunk is right, most of your expenses will be for gear whoring...getting all the Multi-Cam gear, ACU's boots, headwear, etc etc. There are some guys that come out to these things that literally spend several hundred dollars on everything but their guns and ammo...
