As others have said here before, if you're looking to spend low to mid 1000's you have to go crt rptv, anything else will be garbage. For the other technologies, you need to start at 1800 and above.

Hitachi makes the best CRT RPTV (I own one).
Samsung & Toshiba have great DLPs.
Panasonic is tops for Plasma (get the commercial model though, not consumer)
Sony is tops for LCD RPTV
JVC's D-ILA is great (It's an LCOS display which is fantastic but pricey)

I have a pioneer 43 inch HD plasma. Couldn't be happier with the awesome picture quality! I was choosing between a Panasonic and Pioneer at the time.

Direct view CTR TV's still have the best quality picture available. You can't go wrong with the Sony XBR series.

i would want to build a pc based tuner/tvo box.

i thinks the pci based tuner cards do not use alot of bandwidth.

i have been holding off buying a new higher perofrmance pc till the new windows comes out tho
