[QUOTE=JonBoy,Jan 11 2008, 12:31 PM]In Canada, many people would rather pay their own medical costs as they incur them instead of losing money off every paycheque to pay for everyone else sucking off the government's programs and clogging up the system.

Well, here's something for those of you who consider the U.S. system to be superior to single payer, socialized medicine to think about. There is one group of Americans who have single payer, socialized medicine, just like we do in Canada. That group consists of the President, members of the Supreme Court, and both houses of Congress. Don't you think that they are wonderfully self-sacrificing, giving up the superior benefits of the medical care that other Americans have, in order to settle for the sort of inferior system that we have in Canada, and that most other industrialized nations have?

you are wrong. Anyone getting Medicare has single payer. Anyone with some sort of state-subsidized health plan, like MinnesotaCare, has single-payer. In general, single payer plans are government plans. And when was the last time anyone argued the government is the most efficient way to spend money?

The issue isn't that there is something wrong with healthcare in this country, the issue is that the best health care in the world is also the most expensive. And that should not be a shock to anyone.

one thing to add.
the US is at the forefront of medical technology.
without the US Canada (and the rest of the world) would still be in the mid 20th century in term of medical advances.
and you have the gall to criticize US health care.
MRI, CT Scan, X-ray, antibiotics, laser, AIDS, TB, polio, anesthesia were all developed in USA. Canada just copy it.
