Default UFC - is it going TOO "Mainstream"

I don't post much here in OFFTOPIC, not as much as I did before.
But I was wondering (and I know there are UFC fans here)

Do you think the UFC is headed in the direction of WWE/WWF/TNA (you get the point), ESPN is rumored to be jumping on the MMA Bandwagon, and with Zuffa buying out the smaller companies and scooping up contracts for "top quality" competitors.....like...."Rampage" Jackson which acts like he came from WWE with his "character role" and Heath Herring(sp?) who just flat out got OW3D by the O'Bryan(sp?) kid, it just seems that it's becoming a joke.

I wish it would just go back about 2-3 years ago, where not every body and their momma liked it.

Your Thoughts?

personally, l enjoy the hype. it adds to the sport. however, sometimes it seems like they just found 2 people on the street willing to beat each other down for $500 bux.

pride > UFC imho

fights are always more entertaining when both fighters have a solid track record against other fighters and tons of money is on the line.

I have never got into Pride.
I watch them occasionally on utube

they don't do much for me......plus I started watching UFC when it wasn't allowed in the US. I had to get the VHS at the video store.....then I started back up again once they did the PPVs in the US.

Ufc has definatly been getting more popular. I dont really see it as a bad thing though. The more money in it = more / better fighters, better broadcasting (the first HD one will be feb 3rd), ect... There have been a few "arguments" that I found very cheesy, weather they were rigged or not, I dont know. However, there has only been 1 fight that I have ever thought the outcome was rigged, and that was the Oritz - Griffin fight. Griffin DOMINATED Ortiz, but Tito won by UNANIMOUS decision. Who knows if the judges were paid off or what, but everyone knew that Forest won that fight (even Rogan didn't know what to say... ).

BTW: Will someone please beat Liddell?????

Yep I agree with you on the Ortiz Fight.

Liddell....man I really thought he was a chump....not taking anything away from him, I sure as hell wouldn't want to fight him....but he is stating to grow on me.

Yes he's been champ for a while, but he deserves it. He is a crazy unorthodox fighter.

Chuck is DA MAN

Would like to see him fight Rampage soon, Rashad, Bisping, maybe Franklin if he came up a class

Personally I like the exposure that the UFC is getting. The tv show did wonders for the general public, it is what got me back into it. Like you NVM, I used to watch the old school UFC on vhs when I worked at blockbuster 10 years ago and my dad loved the stuff. When Royce would beat everyone in 20 seconds...

Now you have more fighters, which equals better fighters and a larger talent pool to choose from. You don't have to watch the same fighters or fights over and over again. No more stupid ass Sylvia vs Arlovski three fights in barely a year or two. That was wack!

With talent like Mirko, Rampage, Herring, Chuck, Jens Pulver back, Anderson Silva... you have better fights. More money, more states now authorizing UFC fights... HBO and Showtime wanting in on the mix...

the possibilities are endless...

but I do hate the casual wannabe "knows nothing" about the UFC, fan... they need to stay home and watch it in their free time and stop cluttering up our local bars that host the PPV fights for free...

Isn't rampage fighting this Saturday?? I watched his first fright vs Liddell (Pride), and Liddell got dominated. That would be fun to see in the ufc

I really want to see Bisping in a fight that challenges him. He has blown through everyone he has fought...

Still dont know what to think about Randy coming back... He has always been my boy (his gym (team quest) is about 2 minutes from my house). I hope he still has it in him and doesn't ruin his career....
