Default ugly shoe on ebay for $27,300 (currently)

I search ebay and am amazed at the bargains at times. (Red S2000 w/ 17k miles for $27,000, silver fully loaded S2000 w/4k miles for $28,500)... anyway.

Ugly.

Scot (right now there is also a Audi S4 Avant w/ 150 miles-his wife doesn't like the car - that the seller will get rid of for $36,000 basically. Sticker was $43k+)

I sent the owner some basic questions while it was still under auction...No response. Kind of a warning sign!

I thought it might make a fun DE and track-day car since the BMW club is anal about "no convertibles" for their DE events.

My experience has been that a very low percentage of ebay cars actually transact, even if the reserve is met!

I would never buy a car on ebay, I just don't know why.

Update, for no apparent reason...

The seller finally contacted me. He apologies for not getting back to me before the auction closed.

He told me:

1. The high bidder had already backed out (surprise!)

2. The car would be sold for best offer over $32,500. Not quite the deal it was at $28K, although still closer to wholesale than retail.

Of course that increase in price eliminates my "drive it on the track for a year and sell it for what you paid for it" opportunity.

Which is a good deal, but not a great deal seeing as you could likely get a new '02 in your choice of color from a dealer for $40K
