"Ultimate Driving Experience?"
I received an invitation for this BMW driving school about a month ago. I am scheduled to take the class tomorrow.
Basically, they set you up in your choice of a 330ix (my choice), 530i, or an X5. You get a bit of classroom training where you learn,

Yeah I did this last year. Very cool, it's exactly as you describe it they let you take a few cars around a course and time you. Your graded as a team. I had the fastest time of the day but the rest of my team sucked. We didn't have and M series cars. Considering it's free it's a blast.
I did the "Ultimate Drive" last year too, where they did the training & autocross with just the X5 vehicles. It was enjoyable and quite worthwhile. They had other BMW models for test drives but no M cars. Have fun!
Ok, here is the promised report. It was tons of fun and definitely worthwhile. It was especially fun doing it on someone else's tires. The instructor said they were stock tires that would last 40k miles on the street, but are trashed after just 50 miles of the driving school. Yikes. The stench of burning rubber after each run sure made this believable.
As I mentioned before, I selected the 330xi for my drive. My first impression of the car was that it had a great deal of pep. Especially, for an automatic. I didn't get to floor it, because they had a block between the gas pedal and the floor.
I had a bit of trouble adjusting to the steering. Turning the BMW around the cones took quite a bit of cranking. I would guess that one would need to turn the wheel twice as far to get the same response as one would in the S2K. Yes, I killed a few cones...easily more than anyone in our group.
After my third run, I was a little more comfortable spinning the crap out of the steering wheel and stopped the coneicide.
I wouldn't say I learned a great deal about driving. The training was just to brief. But for the pure joy of flogging someone else's car, it was well worth it.
Oh yeah, my wife insisted I mention she had a better time than I did.

I am not 100% sure how I got on the list, but my best guess is that it was through BMW's website http://www.bmwusa.com
When I was shopping cars, I stopped in to build an M roadster. I must have registered then.
Here is the number I called to confirm my reservation. 800-856-4269

This is kind of off topic, but I went to an auto cross a few months ago and got my first ride in a s2k, sweet. Anyway, I entered my rental, a dodge intepid, and beat a '95 m3. Go figure. Anyway, I now have a s2k in my garage.
