Upgrade to XP?

I couldn't disagree more. I've been on XP Pro for well over a year. Not only is it very stable (more than Linux or any Mac), it runs games, work stuff without problems.
I'd recommend it, but always make a backup if you choose to.

I had to upgrade to XP from 95 as I had V1 that would not support cable modems. I hate it. It is a memory hog. Slower than other Windows products. Does not support all hard ware. You need to go out and surf to get updates. I am on an HP that is only 3 yrs. old. The icons for display default to folder rather than lists. As you hit each screen you need to change. It has been stable (I have the Home not the Pro). I do not see an advantage in changing.

My company will not use it in production machines for our customers.
As an automation engineering consultant for manufacturing facilities, it is absolutely critical that we provide stable solutions in order for our customers processes to run smoothly and without interruption. With that said, Windows 2000 is the only Windows OS we spec.
If stability is not as critical to you, then maybe its worth a try.

I use WinXP Pro for most of my hardcore operations, ie 3d animation, film digitization, export to DV, and, of course, games 
...
I have a second hard drive runnin 98 SE because not all games are XP compatible (I have a LOT of older games that I still play and enjoy).
But, if you want stability, ease of use, excellent media properties and great internet support, I would recommend XP Pro. The ONLY reason I have held onto 98SE was for the game compatibility, nothing else

I've installed XP on two occasions and on both of them have decided to go back to win2k. My reasons: terrible wireless support and lack of campatibility with several applications I use including VM Ware, Nortel VPN client, and Easy CD Creator. I know that there are upgrades out there for VM Ware and Easy CD Creator that run under XP, but I don't want to upgrade those too.
