Friends don't let friends use MS Office. Seriously, check out www.openoffice.org. That free package had me up and running when all MS tech support had to say to me is "hmm, guess you'll have to upgrade Office 97 to have Office function under Win XP." That was the last straw for me.

I think it's pretty funny that George's computer has an issue that wouldn't be a problem if he had a Mac - and someone posts something infantile with this "don't go with a Mac" stuff.

I have a Thinkpad T-30 running XP Pro and it is light years better than my old NT Toshiba - but neither of them are the equal of my 17" Powerbook.

Glad you got your issue straightend out, George!

The problem with your PC is that you buy packaged ones...you get shit parts in packaged PCs

wicky -

One of these days I'm gonna build a kickass PC from the ground up. Bang for the buck I'm sure it'll be a screamer. But until I have a bunch of free time - it's not gonna happen. I'd rather goof with my S2000.

It's the overall user experience that I prefer with my Macs.

As an example - just picked up a new ipod for the wife - the seamless integration with itunes is just beautiful.

Video/photo/Palm integration - all that stuff is just silk.

I'm not a real tweaker or modder when it comes to computers - just basic stuff like ram, drives and video card replacement.

What can I say - I'm a user - not a programmer.

Maybe I'm not *smart* enough to be a PC fan.

naw, it's just different strokes for different folks eventually, (when Utopia comes along) integration won't be an issue. I just got a bluetooth hub and now I have all kinds of things talking to each other, it's really cool. I could go on and on with comparisons, but my outlook is, we are just lucky to have so many options and so many of them are working well, and like you said, you bought what fits your needs what more can you ask for I love toys!
