USPS
So I win an auction on ebay, it was really from an ebay store. Anyway, they send me my package via USPS. It has a tracking number and everything. It was shipped on the 5th of January. So by now I have been wondering what happened. I go through my emails and I find the email for the auction and I find a link to check the tracking status thru the USPS website. The details showed that the package arrived on the 10th. It's the 19th, and I don't have it. So what this means, most likely, is that the USPS person left the package on my doorstep and someone just came by and claimed it as their own. Has anyone ever had to dealt with this kind of a situation with USPS? There was no insurance available for the order so I wasn't able to get it, or else I would have insured it. So in the meantime, some asshole is sporting my quiksilver jacket.
Well, I suggest talking to your local post office and also emailing the seller of the jacket. More than likely both will tell you to get lost, but you never know, maybe someone just got laid and is having a good day.
YES, i've had more nightmares shipping with USPS... but anyhow, that doesn't sound like your situation, for you it seems like simple mail theft. Seriously, if it was shipped by UPS instead, what was to stop the person from taking it off your doorstep then?

UPS leaves stuff on my doorstep all the time without a signature. UPS drivers have to work til their truck is empty and they don't want to mess around wasting time getiting signatures. Sometimes, they just sign it themselves.
I've never had a problem shipping anything through USPS. I always get adequate insurance and delivery confirmation. Its very cheap. I've probably shipped at least 60 times with them with no problems, even overseas.
Maybe next time, if insurance isn't offered, you could request it.

I ordered a "special"
Xbox over Christmas that someone at the fedex warehouse stole. It made it to their headquarters and then the tracking just stopped. FedEx paid for it and I got a new one, but I paid for two day air and ended up finally geting my package about a month after I ordered it.
