bali - never been
thailand - was just in bangkok, hated it. very polluted, the taxi/tuk-tuk guys try and rip you off any chance they get. muay thai fight was cool but even then we got overcharged ("foreigner" fee...pfffft). if you go, definitely spend your time down south. or up north in the jungles.
singapore - almost like a US city. very different from the rest of south-east asia. nice to visit but don't need more than a few days.
philippines - lots and lots of shopping and great prices too. not too polluted and people are nice. worst food i've had. like bangkok in terms of cost...very inexpensive.
russia - never been, but want to.
amsterdam - good times, but i didn't think you needed to stay for too many days.

OP- like a few people asked before, what exactly are you looking for in a vacation?

I'd love to go back to Japan, maybe I will next year, who knows. I want to see the cherry blossom, and British Airways is offering me first class ticket due to all the travel I do with them... (but that will be one of those "expensive" vacations).

You could also look into any special passes if you're going somewhere. For example, I just came back from a one week trip in London. I bought the "London Pass" with a travel ticket, which meant that I could get in free to a great deal of museums and attractions (the Zoo, London Tower, Sherlock Holmes museum, etc...). A very hassle free vacation and I was able to take in a lot of the city history

 

Any place tropical.

Topless beaches with firm young talent cruising in thongs. Throw in some good surf or reef dives and your set.

Why on earth anybody would even consider anything else is beyond me, maybe their getting ready to vacation blue hair style. Bunch of geezers.

It really depends on what you want to do, how safe of area you want to visit, and your budget. There are lots of interesting party places to visit, but many of them are fairly unsafe for Americans. If you're into shopping and sight-seeing, there are dozens of options in Europe. If you want to feel like you're about to have a panic attack for the entire trip, you should spend a week in Tokyo like I did.

 

I'm going to the US Virgin Islands (St. Johns) next week. From the pictures I've seen, it should be pretty sweet. I'll post again when I get back.

But like the others have said, you need to give more info on what kind of a vacation you're looking for, and your budget.

Don't go to Mexico..

 

They are nice. They do drive on the wrong side of the road though. One thing to note is that booze is CHEAP there and you can bring back 5 bottles duty free.

 

I've been to many places in Mexico that are awesome.

My favorite is Cabo. GUARANTEED good weather, awesome golf, awesome fishing, fantastic nightlife, great ATV tours.
