Default VCR question

I have a JVC VCR that likes to chew up tapes. Anyone know of a quick fix other than a repair shop? I'm guessing repairs would equal the cost of a new machine. Thanks in advance.

repairs shouldn't cost much but if you're short on cash$$$, try cleaning it or opening the VCR up yourdelf and see why its chewing it up..you'll eventually figure it out. Just Concentrate...MY SON.

If I opened it up I wouldn't know what I was looking at. Anybody have any cleaning tips or detailed info on what to look for that might be the problem?

BTW, thanks for the response s2kmotorsports, and I'm of the female gender.

hehe! Been there, done that! Found a highly rated Panasonic DVD for $200!!!! First movie played on it was The Matrix.

I tend to hang on to electronics. Still have my Sony SuperBeta 750 with betacam. I'm sure it'll come in handy sooner or later.

It sounds as if your rubber rollers are glazed and slipping. You need to go out to your local electronics store and buy a bottle of rubber revitalizer. Apply it to all of your belts and RUBBER rollers, NOT the hard plastic ones.

Depending on the age of your machine, you might be just as well-served if you retire it and get a new one. You can get a 4-head stereo unit at Walmart for around $100.00 or so.

Ivs2k,

That's what I was thinking. It has alot of neat features though, that of course, I never use. Just hate to toss electronics. Have a sack full of walkmans, cable cords, etc.

WhataRide,

Is it possible to apply the revitalizer through the cassette opening or do I have to tear it apart? This answer will determine the future of this machine.

No, it can't be applied throught the cassette opening but all you have to do is take the top cover off (usually four screws) and you'll have easy access. It's really not that difficult.
