Default Venting: Map sensor goes out and I am to blame.

So my CEL come on AGAIN and i take my car into a Honda shop here in dallas. Apparently my map sensor is going or is bad. My service advisor comes out and says "what have you been doing to your car".
ME: nothing
(oh btw I have no mods what so ever)
him: someone has been modding your car
me: no, no one has. Why what's going on.
him: Your map sensor is having a problem and someone has been messing with it.
me: no, no wrench has touched my engine compartment. The only thing I ever do to my car is change the oil.
him: are you sure?

So what is this. Just because I'm 20 years old and drive a s2000 I mess with my car. Apparently i buy the biggest warranty i can JUST SO THAT I CAN MOD MY CAR. Sorry if i'm venting but i'm really upset that my service advisor feels that it is ok to come out and accuse me of messing with my car just because something has gone out. When i go back i'm going to let him know that i do not appreciate being treated like that. Do you guys think I should talk to the service manager?

Yes, talk to the service manager. Even if you did mod your car, they can't blame anything that breaks on it.

Something good to read before you head back up there:

Thanks a bunch for the reply. I haven't modded my car so i know they are going to fix it. But the manner in which the service rep spoke to me was very demeaning and accusing.
Thanks again

Yeah I'd talk to the service manager. BUT, remember you are 20 years old. Hate to say it but many people will have a stereotype about 20 year olds. SO, you need to make sure you sound mature and just make your point that you haven't modded your car and it's inappropriate for anyone to suggest so and try to void your warranty.

I just talked to the service rep again and cleared things up. Looks like it was the throttle body that will need to be replaced if the light comes on again. We'll see!
Thanks for all your help guys!

There are ways you can fry mass airflow sensors. For example, and my work-buddy did this one in his Ford truck, if you over-oil a K&N style filter and there's a straight shot to the sensor, oil can coat the sensor and cause failure. Seems to happen less when there's a tubing bend in front of the sensor.

I had a smilar issue with my fist car when I was 18. They actually said to me: "Well, how do we know you were not abusing the car?" This was about 3 mos after I bought the car.

yah, it was actually my throttle body that they said looked like it caused the CEL. but they saw that one of the screws on my MAP was a little stripped. And of coarse they imediatly think that i did it. (It must have happened whenever i got in a wreck and they fixed my car[i've never touched the map sensor])I've been dealing with this advisor for about 1 year and 1/2 now and it reallly suprised me how he handled the situation. It's all fine now. I"ll bring the car back whenever it happens again and they will order a new throttle body for me.Thanks for you help guys.
