Default Video editing

I've been a dedicated photographer and am pretty sufficient with photoshop, but I said, it's time to move on.

I want to learn the art of video recording and editing.
I just recently purchased Canon TX1 as a starter. It is compact and it also does 720p recording. I want to start from some basic stuff like cropping out the unnecessary scenes and, if possible, either compree or convert files smaller in size so I can easily post them online.

What kind of program do you guys use?

I recently acquired the Sony Vegas 7.0 and it seems very sophisticated, which is good but I'm having hard time teaching myself. Almost as if when I was first introduced to the Adobe Photoshop (somewhat clueless) long ago.

I was wondering if there's something simple and easy to use for beginners?

ArcSoft Showbiz is a user-friendly uber-basic video editor, but I much prefer Adobe Premier.
